Baccarat, or Punto Banco, is a casino game that can be found in most European and Nevada casinos. While it may seem intimidating in movies – perhaps because of its classic Bond-movie setting – it’s actually an easy, slow-paced game that’s perfect for beginners.

The History of Baccarat

Founded in 1764, the Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat was one of France’s first glass-working factories. It made a wide variety of different types of crystal glass, but the company’s most famous products were its lustrous crystal glasses – especially those used to serve wine.

The company was established in Lorraine, Eastern France. In the 19th Century, the company was able to produce a range of crystal glasses with a distinctive prismatic lustre – a kind of iridescence – and a high level of clarity.

It was also a leading manufacturer of luxury tableware and drinkware. Several of the firm’s most famous designs are still in production today.

Some of these pieces are engraved with intricate patterns, using either a stone or copper grindstone or acid. The engraving process can be very delicate, and many of the designs are so fine that they require special cutters to ensure a precise fit.

The company is currently still a working manufacturer of glassware, and its 21st Century pieces reflect the dialogue between heritage and modernity. It’s a style that has become increasingly popular with glassmakers all over the world, and one that the Baccarat brand is very proud of.
